Mrs. W.P. Molloy

Mrs. W.P. Molloy was recorded in one advertisement and two announcements in the Plattsburgh Republican (Plattsburgh, New York).  The advertisement ran from July 24 to December 4, 1858.

Daguerrean Gallery!  Mrs. Molloy Will open a Gallery Of Art about the middle of next week in Welcome’s Building, over Col. Stone’s printing office, where all who desire may have well executed pictures in Phototypes, Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes, Sphereotypes, and Hillotypes in oils, India Ink or plain, at reasonable prices.  Mrs. M. Possessing the acquirements of an Artists in painting will furnish Photographs in a very elegant style of finish.  Cloudy weather preferred.

The first announcement appeared on September 18, 1858.  List of Premiums Awarded at the Sixteenth Annual Fair of the Clinton County Agricultural Society Held at the U. The second announcement appeared on December 25, 1858.  Ambrotypes and Photographs are among the most appropriate articles for presents.  They may be had at Gates’ Gallery or at Mrs. Molloy’s rooms, over the Republican Office.

C. R. Moffett

C. R. Moffett  was recorded in an announcement and two advertisements. The first announcement appeared on September 25, 1847 in the Boon Lick Times(Fayette, Missouri).  Miniatures.—See Advertisement of Mr. C. R. Moffett.  He desires a call whether employed or not.  His terms are very moderate—call and examine his work for yourselves.

The advertisement ran from September 25 to October 16, 1847 In the Boon Lick Times (Fayette, Missouri).  Colored Daguerreotype Miniatures.  Taken in the best style, in all kinds of weather.  The subscriber respectfully informs the citizens of Fayette, and vicinity that he will remain at his room a few days, and will be happy to wait on those who feel disposed to patronize him in this art, by obtaining, at very little expense, what under some circumstances we would value beyond price.  Embrace the present opportunity—“To secure the shadow e’er the substance fades, of children whom we love and parents we revere.”

They are now made indelible as time, giving the natural color.  Likenesses in all cases warranted perfect.  The public are invited to call and examine specimens, whether they intend sitting or not, which will be exhibited at all hours with much pleasure.  He has the most recent mode of taking Miniatures, which differs widely from those taken a year ago.  His instrument is one of the best that can be obtained, just from the East.  Being late from St. Louis, he warrants good work, or no charge, having a fancy back ground which adds much to the beauty of the Miniature.  Portraits copied and Miniatures set in Lockets, Breast pins, & c.  Rooms opposite the Post Office, in Criglar’s Brick.  C. The second advertisement ran from April 19 to May 10, 1849 in the Glasgow Weekly Times  (Glasgow, Missouri).  Cheap! Cheap!!  Daguerrean Miniatures Taken in the Best Style at from $1 50 to $2, in family groups or singly.  Also miniatures for lockets, Breast-pins, or rings.  Likenesses warranted perfect or no charge:  taken in all kinds of weather, in from 20 to 60 seconds, giving the natural color.  Ladies and gentlemen are respectfully invited to call.  Rooms opposite the stage office.  C. C. R. Moffett is recorded in Craig’s Daguerreian Registry, in Danville, Missouri in 1848.

James G. Moffet

James G. Moffet is recorded in an advertisement on May 9, 1848 in the New York Herald (New York, New York).  To Daguerreotype Artists.  A Superior quality of Plates, Mats, and Preservers, manufactured and for sale, wholesale and retail, by James G. Moffet, 156 Fulton street,—Third door east of Broadway.

James G. Moffet is recorded in Craig’s Daguerreian Registry but he does not include a date or address.

D.  Minthorn

1842                Rooms in Mr. E. Clark’s Building, Ford Street, over Mr. Egert’s Store,                                                    Ogdensburgh, New York.

D.  Minthorn was recorded in an advertisement that ran from March 29 to April 26, 1842 in the St. Lawrence Republican (Ogdensburgh, New York).  Daguerreotype Miniatures, Taken every week day by D. Minthorn, Ford Street, in Mr. E. Clarks building over Mr. Egert’s store, 2d floor.

D.  Minthorn was recorded in Craig’s Daguerreian Registry as “Minthorn” active in Syracuse, New York for six weeks in 1841.

S. O. Minor

S. O. Minor was recorded in two announcements and one advertisement in the Democratic Banner (Bowling Green, Pike County, Missouri). The first announcement appeared on November 12, 1849. Daguerreotype Miniatures.  Readers, have you a friends, a relative, or perchance-a-a-lover, with whom you would leave a memento or friendship’s offering, if so, call at the rooms of Mr. S. O. Minor at Baird’s Hotel, during the present week, and “Let Nature copy that which Nature made,” your ug-pretty face.  We have examined some specimens of Mr. Minor’s skill, and believe them to be equal to those taken in the largest cities, and know them to be cheaper.

The second announcement appeared on December 9, 1850.  Attention is directed to the card of S. O. Minor, Daguerrean Artist, to be found in this paper.  Mr. Minor is well skilled in his business, and having located in our city for the winter, a fine opportunity is presented to those who wish correct and lasting pictures.  His rooms are at Shaw’s Boarding House.  Don’t fail to call and see him.

The advertisement ran from December 9, 1850 to February 3, 1851.  S. O. Minor, Daguerreotype Artist.  Louisiana, Mo.  Having located himself for the winter, would respectfully call the attention of the Ladies and Gentlemen of Louisiana and vicinity, to his line of business.

Hours from 9 to 3 o’clock.  Instruction and Apparatus furnished on reasonable terms, to any who may wish to follow the business.

J. H. Minnich

1857                Gallery in the Nemaha Valley Banking House, Brownville, Nebraska.                  1858                Main Street next to the Bank Building, Brownville, Nebraska.

J. H. Minnich was recorded in three advertisements and one announcement in the Nebraska Advertiser (Brownville, Nemaha County, N. T. [Nebraska]). The first advertisement appeared on November 26, 1857. Daguerrean’s Notice. The undersigned would respectfully announce to the citizens of Brownville and vicinity that he has opened a Daguerrean Gallery in the Nemaha Valley Banking House, and is now taking miniatures equal if not superior to any in the West, without any regard to weather.

Each and every picture warranted to stand in any country or climate.  Lockets and Pins filled in the best, workman like manner.  J. H. Minnich.

The second advertisement ran from December 3 to 31, 1847.  Ambrotype Notice.  J. H. Minnich respectfully invites Ladies and Gentlemen to call at his Ambrotype Gallery, where specimen pictures can be seen of the first quality, and where you can have a miniature taken that cannot be surpassed in beauty and durability, and which will be warranted not to change in any country or climate.  Children can be taken of fair days in from two to five seconds.

Please give me a call, I’ll try to accommodate all.  Lockets and Breastpins Filled.  Office in Nemaha Valley Banking House.

Minnich & Akin

1858                Main Street next to the Bank Building, Brownville, Nebraska.

Minnich & Akin (J. H. Minnich) were recorded in an advertisement and announcement in the Nebraska Advertiser (Brownville, Nemaha County, N. T. [Nebraska]).  The advertisement ran from May 6 to 20, 1858.  Ambrotypes.  The undersigned having entered into a co-partnership and built a sky-light (side light connected) Daguerrean Gallery on corner of Main and First streets in the city of Brownville, would respectfully announce to the public that we are now prepared to take pictures with all the beauties of the art, and at reduced prices.  Pictures inserted in lockets, pins, &c., in the neatest style.  Being experienced artist, we have no doubt that all who want good pictures can be pleased.  Call and see.  Minnich & Akin.

The announcement appeared on May 13, 1858.  Daguerreotype Gallery.  Among other neglected local notices, we have failed before to speak of the erection of a sky-light Daguerrean building, expressly for that purpose.  Messrs. Akin & Minnich have fitted up a neat room on Main street, next to the Bank building, and are now taking as fine ambrotype pictures as can be secured anywhere.  They are both permanent residents, and having evinced such enterprize we hope they will be liberally patronized.

Millspaugh & Bouchez

Millspaugh & Bouchez were recorded in an announcement on March 27, 1858 in The Opelousas Patriot (Opelousas, Louisiana).  The artist skill will supply all with pictures of the best and newest styles:—call on our friends Millspaugh & Bouchez, who have established a permanent Photographic and Ambrotype Room at Odd Fellows’ Hall in Washington, or on William O. Bickel, who is stopping for a short time at the Varieties, in Opelousas, and get pictures of yourself or friends.  See their advertisements in another column.

Millspaugh & Bouchez are not recorded in other photographic directories.  William O. Bickel is possibly William P. Bickel.

J. C. Mills

1859                Rooms on Main Street, Penn Yan, New York.

J. C. Mills was recorded in an announcement on March 30, 1859 in the Penn Yan Democrat (Penn-Yan, New York). Photographs, Daguerreotypes, &c.  We happened into Mr. Mills’ Photograph and Daguerrean Gallery (entrance on the west side of Main St., at the first stairs south of Runns’ Bookstore) the other day.  While there we were shown some very nice specimens of pictures, Photographs, Ambrotypes, Melainotypes, &c, some of which equal in execution any we have ever seen.  Mr. Mills is preparing to take Photographs in a new style, which have proven very acceptable to those who have seen them.  The general mode of procedure, we believe, is about the same, but the effect given to the picture is not a little improved.  Mr. M. has a good sky-light, and all arrangements complete for taking excellent pictures.

J. C. Mills is listed in Craig’s Daguerreian Registry as being active in Penn Yan, New York in 1859 without a business address.

Mills & Hamilton

1859                Address Unknown, Mud Springs, California.

Mills & Hamilton were recorded in an announcement on October 2, 1859 in The New York Herald (New York, New York).  Affairs In California…In addition to the destructive fire at Murphy’s, mentioned below, the Planters’ House, at Mud Springs, together with fifty head of horses, nine wagons and sixty tons of hay were consumed on Monday night.  On Tuesday the daguerrean rooms and dental office of Mills & Hamilton were also destroyed by fire.

Mills & Hamilton are not recorded in other photographic directories.  Both Biographies of Western Photographers and Craig’s Daguerreian Registry list Willis & Hamilton in Yreka, California in 1859, they are possibly the same.
