1855                Rooms above Friling & Grant’s Store, Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

Leisenring & Eckman (J. P. Leisenring & J. K. Eckman) were recorded in one advertisement that ran from April 21 to July 7, 1855 in the Sunbury American (Sunbury, Pennsylvania).  Daguerreotypes.  J. P. Leisenring & J. K. Eckman of Danville, respectfully announce to the ladies and gentlemen of Sunbury and vicinity, that they have opened Daguerrean rooms above Friling & Grant’s Store, in Sunbury, where they are ready to accommodate those who may favor them with a call, with beautiful and life-like miniatures.

All who desire miniatures will do well to call early and secure their pictures, as we know not what  day may bring forth.

Then hasten to our rooms, all ye people,

Before you have reason to grieve;

The cost you will find but little,        

And to satisfaction we’ll give.

Leisenring & Eckman are not recorded in other photographic directories as being active as partners.  J. P. Leisenring is recorded in Danville in Directory of Pennsylvania Photographers 1839-1900 and in Craig’s Daguerreian Registry.  J. K. Eckman is not recorded.  Using modern roads the distance between Sunbury and Danville, Pennsylvania is 13.7 miles.

J. K. Eckman of the partnership of Leisenring & Eckman were recorded on one advertisement and one announcement in the Sunbury American (Sunbury, Pennsylvania).  The advertisement ran from April 21 to July 7, 1855.  Daguerreotypes.  J. P. Leisenring & J. K. The announcement appeared on May 5, 1855.  Mr. J. K. Eckman has established a daguerrean gallery in the large room immediately above the store-room of Friling and Grant, Market Square.  He has shown us several specimens of his skill, and we can safely recommend all who wish a likeness in superior style to call upon him.

J. K. Eckman is not recorded in other photographic directories.  Craig’s Daguerreian Registry does list a J. P. Leisenring in Danville in 1854 and latter as a photographer.

George W. Coble

George W. Coble is recorded in five advertisements and two announcements in the Sunbury American (Sunbury, Pennsylvania).  The first advertisement ran from December 1, 1849 to January 5, 1850.  Coble’s Tooth Ache Drops. A most valuable cure for the Tooth Ache.  For sale by George W. Coble.  Third (red) House above Railroad, in Water street. 

The second advertisement ran from October 19 to December 14, 1850.  Envelopes.—The subscriber would respectfully announce to his friends and a generous public, that he is manufacturing Envelopes of the best quality and of all kinds.  For sale by Geo. W. Coble. 

The first announcement appeared on September 10, 1853.  Daguerreotypes.—We call the attention of our readers to the advertisement of George W. Coble in another column.

The third advertisement ran from September 10 to 24, 1853.  Daguerreotypes!!  Geo. W. Coble Respectfully announces to the citizens of Sunbury and vicinity, that he has opened a Daguerrean Room.  The most artistical attention will be given to position; also in equalizing the light and shade on the face, so as to give every life-like expression, and entirely obviate the flat cadaverous appearance so common to Daguerreotypes.  Persons having unsatisfactory pictures taken by incompetent operators, or those wishing to obtain good miniatures, of themselves and friends are invited to embrace this opportunity, as he will remain but a few weeks.

His room is at the old place, in the Grand Jury Room, (County Buildings.)  Operating hours from 8 A. M., until 5 P. M., without regard to weather. 

The second announcement appeared on April 22, 1854.  Daguerreotypes.—Geo. W. Coble is again in town, prepared to take likenesses.  Pay his gallery a visit.

The fourth advertisement ran from April 22 to September 23, 1854.  Daguerreotypes!  George W. Coble, Respectfully announces to the citizens of Sunbury and vicinity, that he has again opened a Daguerrean Room, and is prepared to take likenesses.  He warrants his pictures to be satisfactory to all wishing true representations of themselves and friends.  Special attention is paid to children.  Copies taken with accuracy.  Instructions given on reasonable terms.  His room is at the old place, in the Grand Jury Room, (county building,) operating hours from 8 A. M. until 5 P. M., without regard to the state of the weather.  Copies should be sent in on cloudy days. 

The fifth advertisement ran from March 31 to May 5, 1855.  A Lot of Chemicals for Sale by Geo. W. Coble, Daguerreotypist.  German Bromine, Chloride of Iodine, do. Do. dry, Hypo Sulphate of Soda, Caynide of Potassyum, distilled Mercury, liquid quick and Gilding.  He has also a Daguerreotyping apparatus, a full set, which he will sell at a reasonable price.  He has also a variety of specimens from town and country, which he will sell at half price, also cases and mats, all of which he will sell as cheap  as they can be bought in the city. 

George W. Coble is recorded in Directory Of Pennsylvania Photographers 1839-1900 as being active in Sunbury, Pennsylvania without an address or activity dates.

George Y. Weise

1857                Room above the Post Office, Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

1857-1858     Market Street, Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

George Y. Weise was recorded in three advertisements and two announcements in the Sunbury American (Sunbury, Pennsylvania).  The first advertisement ran from April 11 to May 9, 1857. Ambrotype, Melainotype And Ambrograph Gallery.  Geo. Y. Weise, will continue for a few day only, to take pictures upon Glass, Iron, or Paper. At his room on the 3d story Brick Building above the Post Office.  Persons wishing a really good likeness had better come at once and secure those truly beautiful embossed shadows of a living substance.

Persons wishing instructions in the Art, can receive them, by applying immediately. 

The first announcement appeared on May 9, 1857.  Borough Election.  At an election held at the Court House on Monday last, for borough officers for the ensuing year, the following persons were elected…Town Clerk—Geo. Y. Weise.

The second advertisement ran from August 22 to November 7, 1857.  Picture Gallery.  Geo. Y. Weise has again commenced and will continue to take Ambrotypes, &c., at his Room above the Post Office.  Persons wishing to have good likenesses taken, will please call and see us.  We will take pictures at reduced prices and take trade in payment for the same.

All kinds of pictures copied. 

The second announcement appeared on August 29, 1857.  Ambrotypes.—Mr. George Y. Weise informs us that he is getting a new supply of cases and other materials from Philadelphia, and will be able to please the taste of all.  Mr. Weise, who has taken some excellent pictures, is a skillful and intelligent operator, and there is no reason why he should not be able to produce first class pictures.

The third advertisement ran from December 12, 1857 to January 9, 1858.  Ambrotypes!  Geo. Y. Weise has removed his Photographic Gallery to his residence in Market Street, three doors east of Youngman’s Printing Office, where he will take Pictures at prices to suit the times.  His assortment of Plain and Fancy Cases are sufficiently large to suit all who may favor him with a call.

G. Weaver

1858-1859       Room in the Post Office Building, Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

G. Weaver appeared in six announcements in the Sunbury American (Sunbury, Pennsylvania).  The first announcement appeared on September 11, 1858.  Ambrotypes.—We are requested to say that Mr. Weaver, will remain but a few days longer in this place.  Persons who are desirous of procuring ambrotypes at his very low prices, are requested to call at his room over the Post Office, without delay.

The second appeared on 23, 1858.  We understand that Mr. G. Weaver, intends reopening his ambrotype Gallery in the Post Office building in a few days.

The third on October 30, 1858.  Life-like Ambrotypes taken in the Post Office building for 50 cents.

Fourth on April 9, 1859.  Life-like pictures taken in the Post Office building for 50 cents.

Fifth on April 23, 1859.  We understand that Mr. Weaver, will remain in this place but one week longer, those of our readers in want of life-like pictures of themselves for 37½ cents case included, will do well to give him a call.

Sixth on April 30, 1859.  For a few days longer ambrotypes will be taken for 37½ cents in the post office building.
