Freidal, (late of No. 11, St. Charles street, New Orleans.)  The advertiser respectfully announces to the citizens of Thibodaux and the surrounding country, that having had long experience in the Art, and having procured all the late improvements, he feels assured of giving all who may favor him with a call satisfaction.  His Pictures are taken with life-like colors, and perfect fac similes of the originals.  Children and groups taken in superior style.  Rooms At The Bank.

Family groups of from 3 to 10, companies, Societies, Classes of Schools, numbering from 10 to 20 or over, are taken in superior style.  Pictures copied, miniatures or lockets magnified on larger daguerreotype plates, or larger daguerreotypes copied in small sizes for lockets or rings.  All of which will be done satisfactorily, or no pay.

Daguerreotyping.  Dear White—I take great pleasure in recommending to the public, through your valuable journal, Mr. Freidal, the Daguerrian, now located for an indefinite period at the old Bank on Jackson street.

Mr. F.’s. pictures are superior to any hitherto taken in this place.  He has had ten years experience in the business, and his apparatus are extraordinary for excellence of finish and powers of concentration.  Mr. F. comes highly endorsed by persons in New Orleans.  A young lady whose opinion I highly appreciate, while I no less appreciate the young lady herself, says, “Mr. Freidal’s pictures are more beautiful than the originals.” (*) Who will gainsay her opinion?  Now, Mr. White, do go and have your beautiful face made still more beautiful, that you may seem to be where you “are not.”  Edwin.

A Flattering Picture.—A defeated candidate for the presidency of the “Ugly Club,” who was perfectly furious because his claims were so slighted, has been to Mr. Freidal’s Daguerrian Rooms at the old Bank on Jackson st., and had his shadow struck on to a metallic plate.  Now he not only admits that he ought not to have had the office, but declares his intention of withdrawing altogether from the Order, he has so “grown in favor with himself,” by frequently contemplating the flattering picture; and he no more considers himself entitled to rank as a member of that ancient and highly honorable but much persecuted fraternity.  Go It, George!

Houma.—Mr. Freidal, daguerrian artist, has left our city for a short season, and located himself in our thriving sister city, Houma, in order to accommodate the Terrebonnians in the way of giving them an opportunity of testing his merits as a photographer, by sitting for their likenesses.  Mr. F. has taken some exquisitely perfect and life-like pictures during his stay here, and we know of no impediment or obstacle in the surrounding atmosphere of Houma, which will prevent his accomplishing like results in Terrebonne.  Mr. F. will again return here in a short time, and remain until the first of August.

Mr. Freidal, The Daguerrian.—This gentleman has “become one of us.”  He has fixed himself in Thibodaux, as a permanent citizen and is now residing in, and has his Daguerrian Rooms at the Bank, on Jackson street.  Mr. Freidal has just recovered from a most severe and protracted spell of yellow fever, but is now “Richard himself” once more, and ask for nothing else than the unrestricted privilege of giving men metallic faces.  We would respectfully suggest that brass faces don’t die, and when we have one on hand, we may defy yellow or any other kind of fever, for if it takes us, it is sure to leave the brass.  Who will dare to say aught against one leaving plenty of brass in his face?

Daguerreotypes.—Our ancient friend Freidal still continues to hold forth at his gallery, in the old Bank, on Jackson street.  We have lately examined some of the specimens of his proficiency in this beautiful art, and cannot but say they are equal to any we have ever seen.  Our town can well afford to support a Gallery of this sort, and we know of no one more deserving of patronage than friend Freidal.

The Ugly Club.—The President of this time-honored and numerous brotherhood, has had a metallic impression of himself taken, to adorn our picture gallery.  Freidal was the happy man who did the deed, and we can assure the public that his “ugliness” has not been flattered in the slightest particular.

Daguerreotypes.—Mr. Chas. Freidal respectfully informs the citizens of Opelousas and vicinity that he has opened a Daguerrean Room at Opelousas Varieties, where ladies and Gentlemen desiring to have their portraits taken can be accommodated.

Pictures warranted perfect, or no pay demanded.

Daguerreian Notice.  Mr. Freidal’s professional engagements elsewhere, will prevent

his remaining more than two weeks longer in Clinton.  Those who may desire perfect pictures executed in the best style of the art, are requested to call during that period.  March 15.

Taenzer was recorded in One advertisement and one announcement in The Feliciana Democrat (Clinton, Louisiana).  The advertisement ran from September 18, 1858 to January 1, 1859.  Photograph & Oil Painting.  Union Hotel Ball Room.  Having Located in the Town of Clinton, for the purpose of executing all orders in the above art, the subscriber respectfully solicits a share of the public patronage.  Portraits taken by the photographic process, or painted upon canvass, of any size or proportion, from life, or faithfully copied and enlarged from Daguerreotypes, or other pictures.

Buildings, landscapes, military or civic companies, photographed at reasonable rates.

The public generally, are invited to call at his room, at the Union Hotel Ball Room, and examine specimens of his art.  sept. 11.  F. Taenzer.

The announcement ran on November 13, 1858.  Tanezer’s Photograph Gallery.—To those who desire a perfect likeness of themselves, their families, or a copy of a daguerreotype or ambrotype of a deceased relative or friend, we would especially recommend to call on M. Taenzer, in the rooms adjoining White’s Hotel.  They will there have evidence of his ability as an artist; and will be able to procure from him as finished a picture as could be desired.  It is the first time that our citizens have had  the opportunity of procuring the services of such an artist, and as it is not likely such a chance will again present itself they should avail themselves of his stay in our town to procure life-like portraits.  Give him a call, at his rooms east of White’s hotel.  His charges are moderate as his pictures are excellent.

The undersigned begs leave to inform the citizens of Clinton and vicinity, that he has opened a saloon adjacent to the Union Hotel, where he is prepared to furnish life like likenesses of those who may favor him with a call.

Rosenberger was recorded in one advertisement and one announcement in The Feliciana Democrat (Clinton, Louisiana).  The advertisement ran from October 25, 1856 to February 7, 1857.  Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes, And Photographs.  G. Rosenberger having received instructions from G. Moses, and having experience in the art of taking Daguerreotypes, will be ready by the first of the coming month, to take likenesses by any of the above named processes.

The announcement appeared on November 8, 1856.  G. Rosenberger has opened his Ambrotype and Daguerrean room at the Union Hotel, being the one formerly occupied by G. Moses.

Gustave A. Moses was recorded in two advertisements and four announcements in The Feliciana Democrat (Clinton, Louisiana).  The first advertisement ran from July 26 to October 18, 1856.

Daguerreotypes!  Ambrotypes And Photographs.  G. Moses, direct from the City of New Orleans, would inform the public, and the citizens of Clinton, that he is prepared to take In A Superior Manner, Pictures by either of the above named processes.

Rooms, At Thespian Hall.  Pictures warranted, and never delivered until satisfactory.  Those wishing pictures must apply at once, as his stay in this place will be of short duration.

The first announcement appeared on August 2, 1856.  We have seen some specimens of Mr. Moses’ Daguerreotyping and Ambrotyping.  They evince his capacity as an artist.  Those desiring pictures can find him at White’s Hotel.  See Advertisement.

The second announcement appeared on August 16, 1856.  Positively The Last Week.—Persons desirous of procuring Daguerrean, Ambrotype, or Photograph Likenesses, from B. Moses, must call during the coming week, as it is positively the last that he can remain in Clinton.

The third announcement appeared on September 20, 1856.  G. Moses has returned from New Orleans with a large supply of cases and frames of all kinds, and can be found at his room at the Union Hotel, where he is prepared to serve all who may favor him with their patronage.  By a new improvement he is enabled to take ambrotype pictures in lockets, breast-pins, ladies’ fans, gents’ hat, &c.  No one desirous of obtaining a fine picture, should neglect the present opportunity, but call at once.

The fourth announcement appeared on October 18, 1856.  The Last Chance.—To-day and Monday are the last days that G. Moses will remain in Clinton, as he leaves for Woodville.  The superior Ambrotypes that this gentleman has taken here, fully justifies us in recommending him to the citizens of that place.  He will there have the assistance of his brother, also a skillful operator.

The second advertisement ran from October 25, 1856 to February 7, 1857.   Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes, And Photographs.  G. Rosenberger having received instructions from G. Moses, and having experience in the art of taking Daguerreotypes, will be ready by the first of the coming month, to take likenesses by any of the above named processes.

1857                Rooms above G. A. Neafus Clothing Store, Clinton, Louisiana.

Moore & Cohen were recorded in an advertisement that ran from January 17 to June 20, 1857 in The Feliciana Democrat (Clinton, Louisiana). Spiritualism Exposed.  The undersigned would respectfully inform the public of the town of Clinton and surrounding country, that they continue the Daguerreian and Ambrotype Gallery lately occupied by Mr. McClure above the store of G. A. Neafus; they particularly invite the public to call and examine their new process of oil painted Ambrotypes.  Those desirous, may obtain life size portraits on canvas; any number of Photographic duplicates provided either plain or colored in oil.  Moore & Cohen.

John S. McClure was recorded in two advertisements and two announcements. The first advertisement ran from November 29, 1856 to January 17, 1857 in The Feliciana Democrat  (Clinton, Louisiana).   New Picture Gallery.  John S. McClure & Co., Would respectfully announce to the citizens of Clinton and vicinity, that they have just opened an Ambrotype, Sphereotype, and Daguerreian Saloon, over G. A. Neafus’ clothing store.

Six years constant practice of the art, together with the recent improvement which they have added, and the use of C. C. Harrison’s improved Mammoth Camera, enables them to offer rare inducements to all desirous of obtaining perfect and imperishable types of friends and loved ones ere decay’s effacing fingers have swept the lines where beauty lingers.  Hear what Mr. E. Author, who conducts one of the largest establishments in the United States, says of these new improved instruments:  “C. C. Harrison’s improved patent Extra Camera, will add another victory to American skill, and give photography a new impulse.”

J. S.—No one will be expected to take a picture unless perfectly satisfied, but a decision must be made at once, as all pictures are considered sold when once pronounced satisfactory.  J. S. McClure, S. L. Hall.

The first announcement appeared on February 28, 1857 in the Houma Ceres (Houma,  Louisiana).  Ambrotypes.—Mr. McClure, Daguerrean artist, is now occupying rooms in the Court House, where he is producing some lovely pictures by the above incomparable process.  Now is the time to secure a picture.  When a near and dear friend has gone to that bourne from whence no traveler returns, what a priceless treasure is one of those sun-painted miniatures.

The second advertisement ran from February 28 to March 21, 1857 in the Houma Ceres (Houma, Louisiana).  Ambrotypes.  The subscriber respect announces to the citizens of Houma that he will remain in town but a few days longer, Only.  Those desirous of availing themselves of this opportunity to secure likenesses by this unrivalled process, will please call at his rooms in the Court House as early as possible, as his engagements are such that he Cannot Remain Long.  Come and examine specimens, at least.  John S. The second announcement appeared on March 21, 1857 in the Houma Ceres (Houma, Louisiana).  Mr. McClure is still in town taking those inimitable ambrotype likenesses.  Those requiring his services would do well to call soon at his rooms in the Court House.  See Card.

E. Levi was recorded in one advertisement that ran from November 24, 1855 to January 19, 1856 in The Feliciana Democrat (Clinton, Louisiana). Daguerrean Likenesses. The undersigned has taken rooms at the Union Hotel, and is prepared to take Daguerreotypes, for those who may favor him with a call.  He will only remain for the space of two or three weeks.  E. Mr. Deo was recorded in an advertisement that ran from February 7 to 21, 1855 in The American Patriot (Clinton, Louisiana).   Daguerreotype Gallery.  Mr. Deo would respectfully inform the public that he has again returned to Clinton, and is now prepared to take life-like Daguerreotype Likenesses in a superb style at his rooms, which will be found to be admirably arranged, at the Hotel of Messrs. Worsham & Dixon.  He will take single persons or families.—His terms are moderate.  A new supply of cases and frames, of all sizes and qualities will be found at his gallery.  Call and see.  Now is your time, as his stay here will not be long.
