Walder & Green (E. W. Walder & N. M. Green) were recorded in two advertisements and one announcement in the Loudon Free Press (Loudon, Tennessee).  The first advertisement ran from January 15 to March 5, 1853. 

And while the wings of fancy still are free,

And I can view the Daguerreotype of thee:

We take pleasure in announcing to the public, that our Gallery is now open at the Jefferson House.  Pictures taken in any weather, and warranted not to fade in the least.  A splendid assortment of Lockets, Breastpins, Rings, Fancy cases, and in fact, everything used in the art on hand.  Instruction given and outfit furnished for $100.  Prices of pictures from $2 to $20.  Everybody invited to call and examine the great variety of specimens,—whether they wish pictures taken or not.            Walder & Green.

The Gold Medal was awarded to Walder and Green, by the Georgia Fair, for the best Daguerreotypes.  Loudon, Dec. 18, 1852.

The announcement appeared on  May 13, 1853.  Those wishing Daguerreotypes are referred to the advertisement of Messrs. Walder & Green.  They are known to our citizens.

The second advertisement ran from May 13 to June 10, 1853.  Walder & Green’s Daguerrean Gallery at Loudon.  We take pleasure in announcing to the public that we have returned to Loudon, and taken Rooms over Orme, Wilson & co’s store; where we are prepared to take Pictures in the best Style.  Sick and Post-Mortem cases attended to promptly. 

Gold Lockets and Breast-Pins of the best materials, on hand and for sale.  Persons wishing perfect Likenesses would do well to give us a call.

Walder & Green are not recorded as being active in Loudon, Tennessee.  E. W. Walder is recorded in Craig’s Daguerreian Registry as being active in Manchester, Tennessee in 1860, it is unknown if they are the same person.

Wakefield & Childs (Leland Howard Wakefield & Childs) were recorded in one announcement and three advertisements.  The announcement appeared on August 17, 1848 in the Daily Sentinel (Ogdensburgh, New York).  Daguerreotype Miniatures, Messrs. Wakefield & Childs, from Boston & Burlington, will open miniature rooms over D. Turner Jr.’s store, Ford st. about the 25th of August.

P. S.  Those wishing Miniatures will do well to wait and examine specimens before obtaining elsewhere.

The first advertisement ran from September 2 to 14, 1848 in the Daily Sentinel.  Daguerreotype Miniatures, Messrs. Wakefield & Childs, from Boston & Burlington, have opened rooms over D. Turner Jr.’s store, Ford st. and are prepared to execute likenesses in the latest and most approved styles, and neatly set them into Frames, Pins and Lockets.

All who feel an interest in the Art will please call and see specimens.           

The second advertisement ran from August 22 to September 29, 1848 in The Ogdensburgh Sentinel (Ogdensburgh, New York).  Daguerreotype Miniatures, Messrs. Wakefield & Childs, from Boston & Burlington, will open miniature rooms over D. Turner Jr.’s store, Ford st. about the 25th of August.

J. W. Vincent was recorded in one advertisement that ran from July 16 to August 27, 1857 in The Westerly Echo, & Pawcatuck Advertiser (Westerly, Rhode Island).  Card.  Daguerreotypes and Ambrotypes.  The undersigned having made an arrangement for the summer, with Mr. Geo, W. Gavitt, is prepared to take Daguerreotypes and Ambrotypes at his rooms over Potter & Champlin Drug Store, at the shortest notice, and will spear no pains to give satisfaction.

1857-1859       Opposite the Gardiner Hotel, Gardiner, Maine.

J. S. Variell was recorded in two advertisements and one announcement in the Maine Rural  (Gardiner, Maine).  The first advertisement was recorded eleven times between February 19 to June 4, 1859.  Notice.  Photographs And Ambrotypes.  (repeated six times.)  The subscriber would respectfully inform the citizens of Gardiner and Vicinity that he has take the Gallery Formerly occupied by Beal’s, opposite the Gardiner Hotel, and is prepared to execute all work pertaining to the Photographic Art, In all its branches, in the Best Manner, And hopes by fair and honorable dealings to merit the public favor and patronage.  J. S. Variell, Gardiner, Jan. 22, 1857. 

The announcement appeared on July 30, 1859.  Nice Pictures.—We have in our possession some nice “Counterfeit presentments” of certain of our friends, executed by Variell, at his Ambrotype Gallery, opposite the Gardiner Hotel.  He is a real artist, is Variell, and pursues his vocation with a real love, for its details and a warm zeal for its perfection.  Varielly-Varielly we say unto you, reader, if thou hast pictures to be taken, prepare to have Variell “do” them for you!  So shall thou return to thy home fully satisfied.  See Advertisement.

The second advertisement ran from July 30 to December 31, 1859.  Found!!!  Premium Ambrotype Rooms!!  Emigrants To California Take Notice!!!  J. S. Variell would call the attention of the citizens of Gardiner and vicinity, to his large stock of Cases, which comprises every description and pattern to be found in any market, and will furnish them together with a picture, Cheaper than at any other establishment on the river or elsewhere.  Pictures of all descriptions from 20 Cents to 25 Dollars.

Don’t forget that the proprietor of this establishment will furnish Pictures cheaper than the same article can be had at any other Picture Gallery in this State, and at the shortest notice.

H. B. Vanneman was recorded in one announcement and one advertisement that is unreadable.  The announcement appeared on December 17, 1852 in the Western Star (Lebanon, Ohio).

Daguerrean Gallery.  Premium Pictures.  H. B. Vanneman, would say to his friends and the public generally, that he is prepared to furnish them pictures of fine tone, with a proper degree of light and shade, and the features well defined, particularly the eyes.

Robert H. Vance (from 1846-1851) in Boston he was in the partnership of Vance & Lerow, In Dover he was by himself, in New York City in 1851 his daguerreotypes were exhibited.    

The first advertisement appeared o February 26,1846 in the Daily American Eagle (Boston, Massachusetts).  Daguerreotype Miniatures.  Pictures taken in any weather, and beautifully colored at extreme low prices.  Copies made from paintings, drawings, bust, and daguerreotypes in a beautiful style.  Pictures taken of deceased persons at one hour notice.

We have on hand a splendid assortment of Lockets, Frames, Cases, Breastpins, Bracelets and Rings, manufactured expressly for Daguerreotype Miniatures.

Students received on very moderate terms and furnished with instruments and stock of the first quality Plates, Cases, Frames, Chemicals, Gilding, and every article used in the business constantly on hand, and furnished to the trade at wholesale prices, and warranted.  The rooms are free to all persons wishing to examine specimens.

The second announcement appeared on July 14, 1846 in the Dover Enquirer.  Those who wish for Daguerreotype Miniatures in the first style of the art, will do well to call on Mr. R. H. Vance, at his rooms in Morrill’s Block, Franklin square, without delay.  Mr. Vance will remain in town but a short time longer.

The six advertisement appeared on September 29, 1846 in the Dover Enquirer.  Miniatures.  R. H. Vance, grateful for past favors would respectfully announce to the citizens of Dover and vicinity, that he has made arrangements to close his Rooms by the 3d of next month, and any one wishing a good Daguerreotype Miniature of themselves or friends, will please call before that time, and he will be happy to wait upon them.  Dover, Sept. 29, 1846.

Any person wishing to engage in the Daguerreotype Business, will find this a rare chance for learning and supplying himself with the Materials, as I will sell out my whole stock at the very lowest prices, and give passion the 5th of next month.  R. H. V.

The seventh advertisement appeared on October 12, 1851 in The New York Herald (New York, New York).  Daguerrean Panoramic Views Of California—Now on exhibition at No. 349 Broadway over Whitehurst’s Galleries, the above magnificent collection of pictures taken from nature by R. H. Vance.  Admission 25 cents; season tickets, 50 cents.

Robert H. Vance is published in other photographic directories. The above helps to clarify his time line.  The question is where did Vance go after leaving Dover, New Hampshire?  No advertisements have been found to suggest that he returned to Boston and the partnership of Vance & Lerow.  By June 2, 1846 (publication date May 15) John A. Lerow is advertising as Lerow & Co., 91 Washington Street, Boston.

A. Tyrrell

1852                Rooms at the Planters’ House, Helena, Arkansas.

A. Tyrrell appeared in one advertisement on  January 24, 1852 in the Southern Shield (Helena, Arkansas).  Daguerreotypes.  Mr. A. Tyrrell, Daguerrean Artists, Respectfully announces to the Ladies and Gentlemen of Helena and vicinity, that he has taken rooms at the Planters’ House, where he is prepared to execute Photographic Likenesses, in the highest state of perfection to which the art has been brought.

Ladies and gentlemen are invited to call and examine specimens, and sit for a likeness, if they choose, by way of experiment.

My pictures are taken by an excess of Chlorine Vapor, which places them beyond the possibility of fading, so common to those taken by the old process.  The most artistical skill will be given as to position;—also, equalizing light and shade on the face, so as to give every life-like expression.

Miniatures enveloped in Lockets, Pins, Rings, Bracelets, Cases, or Frames, of all sizes, varying in price from $2 to $10.

Persons having engravings, miniatures of any description, or family portraits, can have Daguerreotype copies.  [Jan. 17, 1852.

A Tyrrell is recorded in Pioneer Photographers From The Mississippi To The Continental Divide A Biographical Dictionary, 1839-1865.  Craig’s Daguerreian Registry list an A. Tyrrel as being active in 1850 in Alton, Illinois it is unknown if they are the same person.  

J. H. Twyman

1853                Address Unknown, Independence, Missouri.

J. H. Twyman was mentioned in an advertisement that appeared on December 10, 1853 in the  Occidental Messenger (Independence, Missouri).  Look Now For Fine Daguerreotypes!!  Mr. Howell would respectfully call the attention of the ladies and gentlemen of Independence and vicinity, to the fact that he has just fitted up his room in good style, so that he is able to furnish those wishing it, A Splendid Likeness.  As he is going away for a few weeks, he will leave Mr. J. H. Twyman in charge of his rooms, to operate during his absence.  Mr. Twyman is a splendid operator—in fact to do him justice he is surpassed by none in the Art.  I therefore do not at all hesitate in recommending him to the people as an Artist.  As he has been with J. H. Fitzgibbon of St. Louis, he has all the new styles of operating, and all the late improvements that are now known in the business.

I will also say to the people, that there are at my room a splendid assortment of cases, which he will [sell] on moderate terms.  Oct 29th, 1853.  W. B. Howell.

William H. Turner

Monumental Daguerreotype Cases, ,

1856                Arch Street, Elliot House Block, Bath, Maine.

William H. Turner appeared in one advertisement on August 14, 1856 in the Bath Daily Sentinel  (Bath, Maine).  Monumental Daguerreotype Cases.  A method has long been sought to insert or attach Daguerreotype Likenesses, in a tasteful and durable manner to monuments.  This had at length been effected, and a patent secured.

The advantage of attaching Daguerreotypes to Monuments are so obvious as to require no argument, and to be appreciated, need only to be seen.

The case which serves as an ornament, is constructed of Parian Marble, an indestructible material.  The Daguerreotype is enclosed in a metal box, and made perfectly air a weather-tight, which box is inserted into an aperture made in the back side of the case, and fastened in with cement.

The advantages of this arrangement consist in securing the daguerreotype from light, air and moisture, and thus preserving it for many years.  It makes a beautiful ornament to the monument, which is comparatively cheap and yet durable.

The subscriber having purchased the right for the Counties of Sagadahoc, Lincoln and part of Cumberland, of this new and beautiful arrangement, are prepared to meet all orders, which they warrants to give full satisfaction and respectfully solicit the patronage of the public.

Cases are made of various sizes and designs to correspond with the monument.  Copies can be taken from the original pictures to suit the sizes of case.  Specimens can be seen at the shop of the subscribers.  Wm.
