Professor McEwen, Daguerran (sic.) Artist, arrived in Santa Fe during the past week.  He is now spending a few days at Vegas Springs, to recruit his health, after which he will open rooms in this city.  Prof. McEwen comes here highly endorsed by the press as [a] most skillful artist and a clever gentleman.  The specimens of work which we have seen are neat.

As to the particular time and place of commencing operations we are not now informed.  We merely desire to give timely notice that such an “institution” is in the city, so that our citizens may have time in advance to cultivate their prettiest looks and most charming smiles, preparatory to sitting for their pictures.

It will be seen by the notice of Prof. McEwen in another column, that he is now in the full tide of successful operation, and taking pictures of the most beautiful artistic finish.  A large number of our citizens have availed themselves of this rare opportunity to have their likenesses taken, and we advise others who desire life-like pictures to call at once at the daguerrean gallery.

Melaneotype (sic.)and Ambrotype Pictures.  I would respectfully call the attention of the good people of this city and surrounding towns to my splendid Picture Gallery.

It is due the world at large that a life or shadow of the face should be left on record.  Now if you will call on me at my rooms, I will give you a picture to be handed down to posterity; that for beauty of excellence cannot be surpassed in this or any other wooden country, and at prices that come within the reach of all.  All I have got to say come and sit for a picture, and if not fully satisfied beyond your anticipations, nothing charged.  Whether persons wish pictures or not, their call will always be acceptable.

We learn from Prof. M’Ewen, the ex [ ? ] Daguerrean artist now in Santa Fe, that the time he has set for leaving our city for the Rio Abajo is near at hand.  Thos therefore intending to avail themselves of the opportunity to have their pictures taken had better do so within the next week or ten days.  Though the specimens we have seen of Mr. McEwen’s ability in his profession fully warrant us in recommending him as a good artist, we make the following extract from a Louisiana exchange to show that he brought a reputation with him from the States:

“Prof. McEwen, the distinguished Daguerrean Artist, now on a professional visit to our town informs us that he shall remain in Homer only a few days longer, and persons in want of beautiful life-like pictures, would do well to call on him immediately.  He is an artist of [decided]  merit.”
