M. A. Cooper was recorded in one advertisement that ran from July 13 to August 24, 1859 in The Louisiana Democrat (Alexandria, Louisiana). Pictures! Pictures!! The undersigned would respectfully inform the citizens of Alexandria and vicinity, that he will remain a short time with them for the purpose of taking Ambrotypes, and Melainotypes, &c.; they can be taken equally as well in cloudy as clear weather, and set in Cases, Breast-pins, Ear-rings, &c. His pictures need but to be seen to be admired. They speak for themselves. Those wishing a handsomely colored Picture of themselves, or friends, should govern themselves accordingly.
