Lewis & Company

1847                271 Broadway, corner of Chambers Street, New York, New York.

Lewis & Company was recorded in an announcement on August 19, 1847 in the New York Daily Tribune (New York, New York).  One of the most beautiful specimens of daguerreotypes we think we have ever seen is one taken by Lewis & Co. 271 Broadway, corner of Chambers st. (entrance on Chambers.)  By a new process they give a correct likeness on a pure silver surface, which does not fade with age.  The tone and finish of their colored daguerreotypes are peculiar features of the improvement, and are not excelled by those whose prices are much higher at similar establishments.

This is possibly same Lewis recorded in Craig’s Daguerreian Registry 1848-1850 at 74 Chambers Street, New York, NY.
